About Me and My Project
Hi, my name is Ruth Arnold. I am sixteen years old and I want to buy a cow.
I’ve always participated in Lent (if you’ve never heard of Lent or don’t have much knowledge on it, you can go here to learn a little more: The Season of Lent). During Lent I tend to just give up Cokes or read a chapter of the Bible every night. This year, I felt compelled to do something different. Something bigger.
Heifer International is something that I’ve been acquainted with for quite a few years. I’ve been to their office and a ranch of theirs located in Little Rock, Arkansas and I’ve worked on some projects for them at a summer camp I go to. If you don’t really know what Heifer International is, there’s a link on my home page that will take you to their site (go down to my very first post). They’re one of those organizations that I really feel give their all to help out the world. In a way…one cow at a time.
When I started thinking of things I wanted to do this year for Lent, Heifer is one of the first things that came to mind. As of January 20, 2010, there are thirty-five days until the first Sunday in the Lenten Season. I’m counting that Wednesday as the “start” of this whole project just because it was the day I made an announcement to my church and asked for their help. In that thirty-five day time-span, I want to try and raise five hundred dollars. Five hundred dollars will be enough to buy one cow for a family somewhere on this earth that really needs it. After those thirty-five days, there will be forty days of Lent when I will have another goal. That goal isn’t something I even want to think about until I’ve reached my five hundred goal. To reach this goal I’m going to need help from you. I asked my church family if they knew any businesses or offices I would be able to set up containers to collect money in or if they would just like to make a donation.
From this site, I’m looking for as many donations as I can. I’ve set up a PayPal account on the Donate Here page. You’ll notice that you have to give your name and address. That’s only so I can send everyone I get donations from a sort of “thank you” letter afterwards. If you can give one dollar, then I’m one dollar closer to my goal. If all you can do is come to this site a few times a week just to check up on how my project is going, then great! On here, I’ll be uploading photos of the donations I get, the businesses I’m working with, etc. so that you can follow my project from beginning to end. I’ll post updates every day I can and I would love for your prayers to come this way!
Ruth – I think what you are doing is fantastic. I’m excited to see such a young person have a large goal set and all in an effort to experience the Lenten season while helping others! It is inspiring! Not only are your efforts inspiring, you are helping bring awareness to the needs of others in our world and to an organization that cares to help. You are off to a great start. I personally will do what I can to help your endeavors!
